Definition: Contextualization is the presentation of the eternal truths of scripture within the cultural setting of the target people.
We do not contextualize the message, rather we present the timeless message of the Scriptures by using the cultural forms, words, and meanings in order to better present that message. This is what makes cross-cultural communication of the Gospel such a challenge. It is not easy work. We must not only understand the biblical message well, but we must also understand the language and culture of the target group before we can be effective communicators.
